Pengaruh Fluktuasi Harga Cabai Keriting (Capsicum Annum L) terhadap Pendapatan Petani di Desa Lubuk Saung Kecamatan Banyuasin III Kabupaten Banyuasin

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the effect of price fluctuations in curly chili on farmers’ income in Lubuk Saung Village, Banyuasin III District, Banyuasin Regency, and to identify the key factors causing such fluctuations. Curly chili is recognized as a strategic horticultural commodity that is prone to high price volatility due to seasonal conditions, market demand, and distribution constraints. Methodology/approach: Quantitative research with a descriptive approach, using a census of 31 curly chili farmers. Data were analyzed using Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) to determine factors causing price fluctuations and Spearman correlation to assess the effect on income. Results/findings: Key factors influencing price fluctuations are season and weather, production costs, infrastructure, planting patterns, government policies, middlemen, pest and disease attacks, seasonal demand, and community consumption trends. Price fluctuations have a significant effect on farmers’ income. Conclusions: Curly chili price volatility in Lubuk Saung Village is influenced by environmental, market, and structural factors, and directly impacts farmer livelihoods. Addressing these challenges requires integrated strategies involving government, market actors, and farmers. Limitations: The study’s scope is limited to one village with a small sample size, potentially reducing generalizability to other regions or commodities. Contribution: This research contributes empirical evidence on the link between horticultural commodity price volatility and farmer income, offering practical insights for policy design and market stabilization strategies to protect farmer welfare.

Marketing Efficiency of Cassava in Tulang Bawang Barat Lampung Province

Purpose: This study examines cassava marketing channels and their efficiency in Lampung Province, Indonesia. Lampung was selected purposively because it is Indonesia’s largest cassava-producing province. Research: The research was conducted from October 2020 to July 2021 using a survey approach at cassava production centers across Lampung. The respondents consisted of 100 cassava farmers selected through simple random sampling, while lapak (collectors) and agents were identified using snowball sampling. Marketing channels were mapped using a qualitative descriptive analysis. Marketing performance and efficiency were evaluated using marketing margin analysis, farmer share, and the Profit Margin Ratio (RPM). Results: The study identified multiple marketing channels, with the longest being the Farmer–Lapak–Agent–Factory channel. Overall, the cassava marketing system in Lampung was found to be inefficient, as indicated by relatively high marketing margins, low farmer share, and uneven profit margin ratios across marketing actors. Conclusions: Cassava marketing in Lampung is dominated by long distribution chains that reduce farmers’ benefits and create unequal profit distribution. Improving efficiency requires shortening marketing channels and strengthening farmers’ market access to increase the farmer’s share and reduce excessive margins. Limitations: The findings are based on survey data from selected cassava production centers during 2020–2021 and may not fully capture seasonal price dynamics, contract arrangements, or variations across other provinces. Contributions: This study provides empirical evidence on cassava marketing channel structures and efficiency indicators in Indonesia’s main production region, offering practical insights for designing interventions to reduce margins, improve farmer share, promote a more balanced profit distribution among supply chain actors.

Experimental Research for the Production of “Butter Cookies” with Red Rice Flour Substitution

Purpose: This study aims to examine public acceptance of butter cookies made with a partial substitution of wheat flour using brown rice flour and to identify differences in sensory attributes, including texture, color, aroma, and taste, compared to conventional butter cookies. Methods: Method research employs a quantitative approach using hedonic tests and organoleptic tests. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed to the general public and expert panelists. The hedonic test was used to measure the level of consumer preference, while the organoleptic test evaluated sensory differences between conventional butter cookies and those substituted with brown rice flour. Result: The results of the hedonic test show that butter cookies made with brown rice flour are generally well-received by consumers, with a favorable preference level. Organoleptic testing reveals significant differences in some sensory attributes, while others show no significant variation compared to the conventional recipe. Conclusions: Butter cookies with brown rice flour substitution are acceptable to the public and have the potential to be developed as an alternative product. The substitution influences specific sensory characteristics, although not all attributes differ significantly from conventional butter cookies. Limitations: This study is limited by the number of panelists and the scope of sensory attributes analyzed. In addition, variations in substitution ratios and long-term consumer acceptance were not explored. Contributions: This study contributes to the development of food product innovation by providing empirical evidence on the sensory acceptance of brown rice flour as a partial substitute for wheat flour in butter cookies.

Generation Z Agriculture: Agrarian Literacy as a Pillar of Economic and Ecological Sustainability

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the understanding of agricultural literacy among Generation Z (Gen Z) in Kecamatan Bacukiki Barat, Parepare, and to compare their understanding based on direct experience and literature. Methodology/approach: This research utilizes a descriptive qualitative approach, employing data triangulation for validity testing. In-depth interviews and participatory observations were conducted to collect data from the research participants. Results: The results show that Gen Z's agricultural literacy is moderate. Although they have a basic understanding of agricultural concepts, there is a lack of practical application. Understanding gained from direct experiences, such as involvement in agricultural activities or field visits, had a greater impact on encouraging real actions than knowledge gained solely from literature or written sources. Conclusions: Strengthening practical experiences in agricultural education is essential to enhance Gen Z’s understanding and participation in the agricultural sector. This can be achieved through internship programs, field practice, and collaboration with local farmers and educational institutions. Limitations: The research is limited to participants in Kecamatan Bacukiki Barat, Parepare, which may limit the generalization of the findings to other regions or populations. Contributions: This study contributes to understanding the agricultural literacy of Gen Z and emphasizes the importance of practical learning experiences for improving engagement and sustainability in the agricultural sector.
