Analysis of Digital Payment Adoption and Financial Management among Traditional Market Traders in Cidu Market
Purpose: This study analyzes the adoption of digital payment at Cidu Market, trader perceptions of digital payment, its effect on trader financial management and record-keeping, and the obstacles traders face in using it.
Methodology: A qualitative case study approach was used. Data were collected through nonparticipant observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving Cidu Market traders selected through purposive sampling, strengthened through source triangulation.
Results: Digital payment adoption at Cidu Market is not yet widespread. Most traders still transact in cash, and the traders who have adopted digital payment, through the DANA barcode, use it only as a transaction tool rather than as a means of financial management or record-keeping.
Conclusions: Digital payment at Cidu Market remains at an early adoption stage and has not yet produced a significant impact on trader financial management or record-keeping, largely because of low digital literacy and entrenched cash transaction habits.
Limitations: The study is confined to two main informants at a single research location, Cidu Market, so the findings cannot yet be generalized broadly to other traditional markets.
Contribution: The study provides empirical evidence on the impact of digital payment on the financial management and record-keeping of informal-sector traders in traditional markets, which can serve as evaluative input for market managers and policymakers.
